Softball Skills Clinics

Camp Description

These clinics will take place on dates throughout the summer. Participate in one or all of these skills-based softball clinics: catching, hitting, infielding, and outfielding. 

Coach's Bio

Coach Leigh has been coaching softball and volleyball for the past 10 years. She started as a volunteer coach for her local youth catholic organizations in Cincinnati when she was a sophomore in high school and has continued to coach for both boys’ and girls’ organizations since. She took both Volleyball and Softball, and spent two years in college playing, while she was completing her bachelor’s degree in Cincinnati, Ohio. She made the decision to stop playing competitively to focus on coaching and youth development, as well as getting a chance to give back to the community. Her coaching philosophy stems similar to Coach John Wooden’s and through the views and philosophy of success. She considers that building the character of the individual is just as important as developing the skills of the player and taking Attitude and Effort as the main values and key components to success becomes a revolving door in the development of the individual and the team. Coach Leigh currently sits as Woodlands Academy’s Interim Athletic Director and Head Varsity Softball Coach, as well as coaches’ softball with the Illinois Lightning Softball Organization.

Catcher’s Clinic $40
Thursday, June 15 

8a-10a Rising 4th-5th
1p-3p Rising 6th-8th

We will cover, in detail, the fundamentals of the “big 3” skills of a catcher which will include receiving, blocking & throwing. We also cover various topics with leadership qualities, mental game topics like controlling emotions, as well as catcher-specific strength training including hip mobility, flexibility & strength, balance & stability, and vision training. This camp is offered for various ages and will focus on the development within that age group! 

Infield Clinic $40

Thursday, July 20
8a-10a Rising 4th-5th
1p-3p Rising 6th-8th

This session will focus on proper defensive techniques on the infield positions. Instruction for all fielders will include throwing techniques, fielding and position responsibilities. Instruction on stance glove work, forehands, backhands and footwork, etc will be covered. This session will also cover techniques and strategies of proper base running, infield plays and movements. This camp is offered for various ages and will focus on the development within that age group!

This two-day clinic is designed to instruct each participant on the proper hitting technique. Instruction and improvement of fundamentals for successful hitting includes the complete deconstruction of the swing through: proper form/technique, grip, various stances, weight shift, stride, swing, and follow-through. This session will focus on the proper hitting techniques, hitting different pitch locations, off speed pitches and advanced mechanics. You will drill the necessary fundamental, mechanical and explosive movements that are keys to becoming a better hitter. This session will also cover techniques and strategies of proper base running, infield/outfield plays and movements. This camp is offered for various ages and will focus on the development within that age group! 

Outfield Clinic $40
Thursday, July 27

8a-10a Rising 4th-5th
1p-3p Rising 6th-8th

This session will focus on proper defensive techniques on the outfield positions. All defense will include throwing instruction, footwork, glove mechanics for each position. Defensive strategy will also be discussed and practiced. This session will also cover techniques and strategies of proper base running, outfield plays and movements. This camp is offered for various ages and will focus on the development within that age group!
