| A Reflection from Head of School |
Greetings Woodlands Academy Families and Friends, This coming week we will celebrate Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day on Tuesday, May 2. This is a national day of recognition for all those who teach. This celebration of educators began in 1953 as National Teacher Day and came about through the advocacy of Eleanor Roosevelt. The teachers and staff at Woodlands are exemplary! Their dedication and commitment to the students are played out in many ways, including serving as advisors, club moderators and coaches for our teams. Additionally, our teachers and staff write letters of recommendation to support college applications, attend retreats with their students, and give their free time to attend games, plays, concerts and art shows.
Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ, said, "It is always the here and now, there is always the present moment to do the very best we can with, and the future depends on the way these moments are spent." This is very true; our teachers and staff understand and act on this. It is a privilege to call them colleagues in this adventure in grace that is Sacred Heart education.
As a member of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, educators of the Sacred Heart are recognized for years of service. Those being recognized this year include:
- Ms. Jennifer Brostrom – 5 years
- Mr. Matthew Nuccio – 5 years
- Ms. Courtney Pomije – 5 years
- Dr. Valerie Rickert – 5 years
- Dr. Meg Kincaid – 10 years
- Mr. Elliot Coffey – 10 years
- Mr. Rocco Gargiulo – 20 years
Please join me in expressing your gratitude for the Woodlands faculty and staff as we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day. I hope that giving a gift (no matter the amount) to the Woodlands Fund in honor of a teacher or staff member, especially those recognized by the Network for their long commitment to education, will resonate with you. I look forward to showering the teachers with the accompanying messages of gratitude. With thanks, Dr. Susan Tyree Dempf Head of School |
