New Sacred Heart alumnae associations’ members inducted

May 22 was a special day for all Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart seniors. Members of the Class of 2024 received a Passport symbolizing their admission into three Sacred Heart alumnae associations, including the Woodlands Academy Alumnae Association (WAAA), which hosts various events for its members.

Associated Alumnae of the Sacred Heart is an organization of current and former schools directly associated with the Religious of the Sacred Heart in the United States and parts of Canada.

The World Association of Alumnae and Alumni of the Sacred Heart is a unique worldwide organization. Its members share the privilege of receiving an education based on the love of God and one another. The association’s membership spans six continents: Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America.

“Wherever you go in the world, you will find kindred spirits who share more than a similar ring or medal. They share a warmth, a love for learning and the living we all experience within the traditions of the Sacred Heart,” said Woodlands Academy alumna Aubrey Roddy ’23 in her opening remarks. “Soon you will leave, but I want you to remember what you have learned here: Sacred Heart women speak up, and we speak out. Let your voices be heard because the world is listening.”

Senior Karishma Bhatara then reflected on behalf of her classmates. “Our class has been through quite a bit in these last four years: a global pandemic, navigating the world of virtual learning, building a community during unprecedented times, and working our way back into normalcy while also trying to understand what the new normal is,” she said. “I am proud to have a bond that will keep us together forever. Always remember that we are here for each other and that our Woodlands connection will keep us together no matter how far we go."

Ennedy Rivera '93, an alumna and member of the Woodlands Academy Board of Trustees, shared her perspective. “For me and many others, Woodlands has been more than just a school; it has been a home. A place where we have been nurtured, challenged and inspired,” she said. “The values instilled in us here—the importance of community, service and striving for excellence—will remain with you as you venture into the world. Woodlands has shaped your character, your intellect and your spirit. It has taught all of us to be compassionate, resilient and courageous.”

Another highlight of the induction ceremony was revealing the three Class of 2024 members who will serve as liaisons between WAAA and their fellow graduates. They are Karishma Bhatara, Gisella Rendina and Campbell Eggers. Students who want to share their love of and commitment to Sacred Heart education apply for the position of Class Representative and then are chosen by their classmates.

The ceremony drew to a close with the singing of "Coeur de Jésus." A reception outside the Chapel of the Sacred Heart followed immediately.
