In addition to a recently announced semifinalist, two more Woodlands Academy of the Sacred students have distinguished themselves in the current National Merit Scholarship competition. Avery Drehkoff and Yue Pan have each received a Letter of Commendation from Woodlands and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in recognition of exceptional academic promise.
Eight Woodlands Academy students and one faculty member received the awards on Oct. 4 for visibly living Sacred Heart Schools’ Goal Three: freshmen Juliette Hopman and Emma O’Brien, sophomores Lucienne Henderson and Elisa McCusker, juniors Sophia Patino and Giselle Vasquez, seniors Sara Bult and Galina Yanishevsky, and physical education teacher Christine Ohlwein.
For the sixth year in a row, Woodlands Academy gets the top grade when it comes to a faith-based education for young women. In other recently released 2025 data by Niche, an independent research company, Woodlands is the #1 Best All-girls High School in Illinois for the eight consecutive year and the best all-girls Catholic high school in Illinois.
Community service is emphasized in a Woodlands Academy education. Goal III of all Sacred Heart schools seeks to educate to a social awareness that impels action. With this in mind, Woodlands held the first of its two 2024-25 service days on Sept. 17. Freshmen and juniors lent a helping hand to area service organizations. Sophomores and seniors participated in retreats.
