The development of the whole person is fundamental to the philosophy of Sacred Heart education. At Woodlands Academy, the Fine Arts are a vital and essential part of a student's total development and are an integral part of the curriculum. One and one half credits in Fine Arts are required for graduation from Woodlands. Course offerings within the Fine Arts Department include ceramics, music, photography and studio art.
Our primary focus is to provide educational experiences which foster artistic and personal growth through creativity. Students enrolled in Fine Art classes learn fundamental skills relative to the given discipline. The development and application of these skills reinforce an aesthetic understanding while exploring the role of art on a personal and societal level. In addition to providing an introduction to each discipline, the study and practice of the arts promotes:
- Critical thinking and analysis
- Reflection and self-dialogue
- A heightened sense or perception
- Social Growth through collaborative projects
- An appreciation for the arts
