Letter from the President
TheWoodlands Academy Alumnae Association (WAAA) is all geared up for an exciting year ahead! As usual, this fall is an incredibly busy time for everyone at Woodlands. And 2016 is no exception. On the Evening of September 10th our Head of School Meg Steele, the Board of Trustees, the Alumnae Board and many special guests gathered with Susan Saint James, '63 and her husband Dick Ebersol to celebrate the Quiet Trail. In honor of her generous gift to Woodlands in 2015, Susan named and conceptualized the Quiet Trail to memorialize her son Teddy Bright Ebersol who passed away at the age of 14. It was a lovely and inspirational evening for all in attendance.
Reunion Weekend is always held on the first Saturday of October. This year in addition to honoring our classes ending in '1 and '6 we will celebrating the 47 year legacy of our very own Madonna Lee Edmunds. Madonna served Woodlands as both a French and Latin teacher as well as our most recent Principal. But we alumnae know she was much more than that and count ourselves lucky to know her. We are expecting a very large crowd of alumnae, parents, and friends. We hope to see all of you.
December 8th-10th will be a festive time with the annual Winter Wonderwalk. This event has become a favorite for many alumnae and their families. Please mark you calendars and watch your mailboxes so that you can share in the friendship, fun and festivities.
April 20th is the date that our senior class of 2017 join us as the newest members of the Woodlands Academy Alumnae Association at their Induction Ceremony and Mother Daughter Luncheon. April 22nd is Earth Day and it's a great day to start a new WAAA Board Service Project with new landscaping and beautification of the RSCJ cemetery on the expanded campus. The cemetery is a hidden gem that can be easily accessed from the Quiet Trail. This is the home of so many of our beloved RSCJ's from Barat College, the Academy of the Sacred Heart and Woodlands Academy. We alums look forward to revitalizing this sacred space.
Mark your calendars for April 29th for Conge, the annual fundraiser that will be held for the first time in the Gloria Dei Center on the expanded campus. Please join us at the Alumnae table. It's bound to be a fun time for all and an important night for Woodlands.
May is always a very special month at Woodlands Academy as we participate in the annual May Crowning, a beloved Sacred Heart tradition. With the addition of the new campus this tradition is even more beautiful as Mary is crowned at the foot of the Barat Cupola.
The Alumnae Board is a growing group of diverse Sacred Heart women. Our Board includes alumnae from Woodlands Academy, The Academy of the Sacred Heart, Barat College and Villa Duchesne. All alumnae of the Sacred Heart are encouraged and welcome to participate in any of our events. We are currently accepting new members so please reach out if you're interested. We are thrilled to have Sister Mary Bernstein, RSCJ as our newest and by far greatest member! Watch for more events in the monthly Alumnae e-Newsletters. If you aren't receiving them contact our Director Alumnae Relations, Kathleen Reidy. Looking forward to a very special year!
